Fred Cuming RA
One of the youngest painters ever elected to the Royal Academy; an associate at the age of 39 in 1969 and a full RA in 1974, his paintings have been the subject of many solo exhibitions. Fred Cuming, born in 1930, continues to draw and paint and in his 88th year has just staged one of his most successful solo shows at the Adam Gallery in Bath. With his accustomed zest for life and an obsessive curiosity about light and colour, he works every day in his studio in the garden of his home near Rye, occasionally now taking a walk in the morning along the beach. His studio is overflowing with paintings yet to be completed, full of the ideas that he wishes to pursue, testament to his lively mind. It's an exciting and comfortable place to be his favourite classical music playing in the background and an overgrown garden on view through the window.
