Jo Taylor is fascinated by the fusion of jockey and horse, a keen rider and horse owner herself she has two passions – horses and painting. Fresh from her critically acclaimed War Horse Exhibition at Liverpool University’s Victoria Gallery and Museum, Stafford Gallery in association with Wimbledon Fine Art are very proud to be exhibiting her work for the first time in Wimbledon Village.
Taylor has devoted many years of her time and energy to exploring the Horse and its ancient relationship with man - this she believes is one of our last links with nature. She has travelled far and wide to find her subjects – visiting the Spanish Corrida, riding with gauchos over the plains of Patagonia, watching thoroughbreds on the dirt in America and wandering the Indian deserts on the back of a Marwari horse in a quest to explore this ancient partnership. Drawing from life not only creates energy in the paintings, but more importantly gives her a deeper understanding of her subject.
Artist in Residence at the University of Liverpool Veterinary Department for eight years has enabled her to study their anatomy and what lies beneath the skin. Working ‘from the inside out’ has given her paintings an exceptional depth and knowledge.
