Paul Wright

It's almost 20 years since I first spotted a painting of Paul Wright's in the National Gallery BP Portrait Awards exhibition, it was a small painting of his close friend Ian, but it pulsed with life, light and a quality of brushstrokes that conveyed such energy.  Over two decades Paul has exhibited worldwide and has gained an impressive following in the artworld.  He has featured twice more in the National Gallery Portrait Award Exhibition, more recently with the painting 'Smaller World'.  It is a beautiful and gentle portrait of his mother and for Paul it is a journey to explore and try to understand the process of dementia since her diagnosis.  He is well known for his portrait painting, but he is also an accomplished still life, interior and landscape painter.  We hope that you enjoy our small selection.
